Lil Nas X Defends Madonna After Her Response To His BET Awards Kiss Receives Backlash

Lil Nas X has come out in support of Madonna after she received backlash for comparing her on stage kiss with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera in 2003, with Lil Nas X’s on stage kiss with a back-up dancer at the BET Awards.

Over the weekend, Lil Nas X gave his first awards ceremony performance of ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’. In the closing moments of the performance, he gave his back-up dancer a big old pash, sparking reactions online from a bunch of homophobes (to be frank).

In response to the trolls, he wrote back on Twitter, “Y’all live your lives trying your best to appease straight ppl. Y’all are uncomfortable with what I do because y’all are afraid they will be uncomfortable with you. Work on yourselves, I love who I am and whatever I decide to do. get there.”

Jumping on the wave Lil Nas X made with the act, Madonna posted a screenshot to her Instagram story of her own infamous on-stage pash with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera during their performance at the 2003 MTV VMA’s.

She posted the image with the caption “#DidItFirst”.

She then faced backlash from the LGBTQIA+ community, who accused her of undermining a seminal moment for queer representation, and also accusing her of queer baiting.

Lil Nas X has now written in her defence, replying to a Pop Crave post in regards to Madonna’s hashtag, saying “Me and madonna are friends. It’s just a joke.”

Fans then followed up by sharing a video of Madonna at her Madame X concert in 2019. She invited a fan, Lil Nas X, up to the stage and during their conversation, they shared a heartfelt exchange.

“I wish you all of the best … Work hard, earn it baby,” she said to him, who responded, “I promise you, I will.”

Lil Nas X is hot off the back of announcing the deets of his debut recordMontero, which does not yet have a release date.
