Madonna Is Self-Directing Her Own Biopic About Her “Untold True Story”

Last month, Madonna shared a photo of her writing a screenplay alongside Diablo Cody, (JunoJennifer’s Body, Paradise, Tully etc) suggesting a new film was on the way courtesy of the pair.

Now, we have confirmation – a biopic based on the “untold true story” of the singer is coming to Universal Pictures. The Queen of Pop co-wrote the screenplay alongside Cody, and will direct the project herself, a decision positively brimming in Madonna energy.

The singer made her directorial debut with 2011 historical drama W./E., and has also directed short films such as Filth & Wisdom. The film is being produced by Amy Pascal, who worked on 1992’s A League of Their Own, which Madonna starred in.

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” Madonna commented in a press statement.

“The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

Last month, Madonna appeared on a remix of Dua Lipa‘s ‘Levitating’ alongside Missy Elliott and The Blessed Madonna. She released latest studio album Madame X in 2019.
