Heavyweights of the metal world Mastodon, Baroness, and Gojira have officially announced their co-headlining Sidewave dates. The three metal monsters will play one show in Sydney at the UNSW Roundhouse and one show in Melbourne at The Forum, launching this February.
Mastodon tore up stages when they were in the country for Soundwave 2012, selling out Sidewave shows alongside French heavy masters Gojira. They’re looking to repeat the mayhem once again for Australian audiences, this time teaming up with Baroness, who are back on their feet after their tour bus veered off the side of a cliff in 2012.
AJ Maddah initially confirmed via Twitter last week that the alt-metal giants will play Sidewaves together, with each band performing headline-length sets. “Looks like it will be Mastodon + Baroness + Gojira Sidewaves! Playing headline sets! Holy f-ck!” tweeted Maddah.
For years, the Atlanta-based Mastodon have been one of the heavy metal world’s most critically-lauded bands, unleashing modern classics like 2004’s Leviathan at terrifying speed. Meanwhile, France’s Gojira have been crafting their own unique thrash sound to unrivalled acclaim.
Likewise Baroness, who curate epic setlists and perform with virtuosic flair to create pulverising live performances that leave no complaints in their wake, have also been favourites of metal and mainstream critics, unleashing records that consistently appear on end-of-year best-of lists.
This will be a night metal fans will regret missing for years to come. Tickets for this incredible triple bill go on sale at 9:00am AEDT Tuesday, 28th January. The short run of shows kicks off Monday, 24th February at the UNSW Roundhouse before a show at The Palace on Tuesday, 25th February.
