Melbourne Music Week is returning for a fifth year this November and has officially got the ball rolling today with the first lineup announcement, lead by legendary German electronic music pioneers, Tangerine Dream, indie-pop outfit Architecture in Helsinki and local synth pop vanguards Cut Copy.
Featuring 250 local and international artists, 110 events and 40 locations, the 2014 program will also showcase an new flagship venue. This year, Queen Victoria Market will be transformed into a space for cutting-edge installations and live music.
The Music Week opening night will kick off on Friday, 14th November with performances from an all-Melbourne line up. Architecture In Helsinki will headline with Total Giovanni and Rainbow Connection DJs also bringing their talent to the table.
On day two, Cut Copy will launch their compilation Oceans Apart with an electro-funk DJ set from the local legends. A carefully curated showcase of of local talent will follow, featuring the likes of Andras & Oscar, Roland Tings, No Zu and World’s End Press.
In their first Australian performance since 1975, Tangerine Dream, will perform on Melbourne Town Hall’s Grand Organ on Sunday 16th November as a part of their Phaedra Farewell Tour. Also featured on the lineup are up and coming hip hop artists Allday and L-Fresh The Lion, plus Melbourne locals Black Cab and Australian rock royalty The Church.
Melbourne Music Week has partnered up again with the annual Face The Music industry conference. The latest addition to this year’s list of international key note speakers is UK radio and television presenter Jen Long, known for her hosting duties on BBC Radio 1 and her own label Kissability.
