Naarm/Melbourne-based metalcore rising stars The Last Martyr have loosed the title track from their forthcoming EP Requiem, a towering collaboration with alt frontman Daniel Cullen-Richards.
,The powerful earworm comes packing a stunning music video directed by Andrew Vaughan, filmed on a nature-themed DIY set designed and built within Box Hill’s Fabrik Studios.
The Last Martyr – ‘Requiem’
“‘Requiem’ visually represents humankind’s relationship with the earth,” The Last Martyr frontwoman Monica Strut said in a press statement about the clip. “There are two sets – Set #1 is a mound of grass and nature to represent the earth, and Set #2 is a swing set wrapped in vines representing the innocence of humankind.”
She continued: “The video starts off lush and throughout the video, the scene is destroyed, burned and charred, covered in ash to show the lost innocence and humanity’s complete disregard for the environment through the poisoning of its land and the heavy adoption of harmful technology, furthering the disconnect. Nearing the end of the video a rogue black rose grows. As a character in a hazmat suit picks the strange flower up from the ground, it electrocutes him. This is the consequence of our actions.”
You can watch the cinematic music video up above, and pre-order The Last Martyr’s Requiem EP – available worldwide on Wednesday, 23rd October – right now here.
