Misfits Reunite With Glenn Danzig For First Time In Three Decades

The well-documented bad blood between Glenn Danzig and the Misfits seems to have come to an abrupt end, with both parties announcing a reunion for the first time in an age. The three-piece will be taking to the stage for their first performance as a band since 1983.

The reunion will take place for both legs of the upcoming US Riot Fest this September. A drummer is yet to be announced for the shows, but who cares right now? The original three – Danzig, bassist Jerry Only and guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein – are all confirmed for the shows.

Despite being an eternal pit of darkness, Misfits have had a fairly colourful history. Forming in 1977, it wasn’t until 1980 when Doyle joined that their frontline assault was solidified. The band added a dark, horrorcore feel to the bourgeoning punk scene, complete with onstage personas and outfits.

However form then on, everything seemed to be falling apart. Danzig parted ways to pursue other creative outlets, as did his band mates. The bad blood seemed reach its height then Danzig threatened to sue the band for a merch deal with Hot Topic.

While no plans have been confirmed for anything other than festivals, we can take some solace from an interview with Only from back in 2011 where he told Rolling Stone, “Doing it with Glenn may work on a short-term basis…I could see us getting together and lining up a bunch of big festivals and a bunch of big shows.”

So standby for more announcements.
