Muse Return With ‘Won’t Stand Down’, Their First New Music In Four Years

Stadium rockers-cum-EDM experimentalists Muse are back with a new single ‘Won’t Stand Down’, and once again the band has taken a bizarre left turn, fusing filthy alternative metal riffage with icy electronics.

Having previously gone off the 80’s electronica cliff with their adventurous and divisive Simulation Theory record in 2018, the band have retained sprinkles of the steampunk aesthetic of their previous outing but clearly listened to a sh**load off Architects in-between, with some screamo vocals and a thumping breakdown thrown in to take the song home.

In less surprising news, the band has released a sci-fi music video, keeping their Roswell / Y2K / *insert X-Files episode here* theme alive and well. Check it out below.

“‘Won’t Stand Down’ is a song about standing your ground against bullies, whether that be on the playground, at work, or anywhere,” singer Matt Bellamy explained in a statement.

“Protecting yourself from coercion and sociopathic manipulation and to face adversity with strength, confidence, and aggression.”

The single is the lead track of the band’s yet-untitled 9th Muse studio album.

We’re not crossing our fingers for the band to recreate the magic of classic records Absolution or Origin Of Symmetry, but if this single’s anything to go by, their creative cylinders haven’t run dry yet.
