Muse have been sharing details about their forthcoming seventh album, Drones, for some time now, resulting in both delight and frustration from fans. The album is due out something this year, but according to frontman Matt Bellamy, its first single may not see much radio airplay.
Taking to Twitter to answer a fan’s question about the rumours of Muse’s forthcoming single being aired on radio, Bellamy answered with a brief, “Too offensive for radio…”
It’s another in a series of cryptic and just plain bizarre clues the band have been dropping about the album. In fact, that brief Twitter Q&A yesterday began when Bellamy posted a link to a Huffington Post article titled, Are Politicians Psychopaths?
“Can’t tell if you’re hinting album themes or just expressing your opinion via social media,” opined one of Bellamy’s followers, echoing the thoughts of many others. To confuse matters even more, when asked if Drones would be the title of the first single, Bellamy replied, “#psycho handler, brainwashing us to be become human #drones.” Get that?
Much of these album clues have come via Muse’s Instagram account, to which the band recently uploaded a new photo of a drone emblazoned with the band’s logo. Another recent post features black and white footage of the band walking through the street as a drone hovers above, as well as voice recordings of the band talking in the studio over still images.
Things we already know about the forthcoming record, apart from its name, include that it will be produced by Robert Lange – who’s worked with the likes of AC/DC – it will be “heavy” in sound and will deal themes of “deep ecology, the empathy gap and World War 3″.
