Nicky Bomba’s Melbourne Ska Orchestra Announce Australian Tour

Melbourne Ska Orchestra are bringing the jims, the jams and the swing when the 26-piece band hits the road for Bluesfest 2013 and a following headlining tour behind their recently released self-titled debut album.

Although only their first album, Melbourne Ska Orchestra have been doing their thing for a decade. Conductor Nicky Bomba has some of Melbourne’s finest musicians under the spell of his magic baton. Bomba explains that his attraction to ska music stems for the music’s inclusive sound and its undeniable infectious spirit:

“I’ve always thought Ska was one of the most universal forms of music. I’d always had it in the back of my mind that when people heard it they would be instantly converted, but what I didn’t expect – like our first Bluesfest gig, for example – was that by the time the second gig came around word of mouth had really spread, and the audience was just massive, people dancing as far as you could see.

“I think the combination of the joy you get from the music and the activity that happens on stage – having thirty people on stage at once is its own wonderful, uncontrollable mayhem – is quite a spectacle.”

Tickets for all shows, including Bluesfest 2013, can be purchased via Melbourne Ska Orchestra official website and are on sale now.
