Pet Shop Boys, Pixies, Giorgio Moroder & More For Vivid LIVE 2014 Lineup

The first acts for the Vivid LIVE 2014 lineup have just been announced with indie-rock luminaries the Pixies, electronic pop legends Pet Shop Boys and beloved electro duo The Presets among the illustrious acts to grace the annual Sydney event’s live music bill, taking place from 23rd of May to June 1st.

The Pixies will play the Sydney Opera House for a rare series of exclusive and intimate performances, opening the 2014 festival. The alternative rock legends have enjoyed a rousing comeback in the last 18 months, releasing their first collection of new music in 22 years with EP1, chewed through a couple of bassists and then releasing this year’s followup EP2, with a slew of accompanying music videos.

Renowned as Kurt Cobain’s favourite group and worshipped by generation-defining artists such as Radiohead and PJ Harvey, the Pixies will return for Vivid LIVE 2014 with their signature bend on psychedelia and surf-rock.

Carriageworks and Modular are joining forces to present three days of exclusive music performances, art, installations and contemporary ideas as part of Vivid 2014. The event, Modulations, will be headlined by multi-award winning electronic pop legends Pet Shop Boys, known for their collaborations across music, theatre and film.

As already reported, The Presets will join forces with violinist, composer and conductor Richard Tognetti and the Australian Chamber Orchestra for Timeline, a series of genre-bending trip through 42,000 years of music. Sydney performances of the show will also take place at the Opera House as part of Vivid LIVE 2014.

Synth-disco legend Giorgio Moroder will make his Australian debut at Vivid LIVE, with two exclusive engagements. The Grammy-winning artist, producer and composer will play an intimate DJ set drawing from his hit-spanning career, with the godfather of dance music taking part in an exclusive Q&A ahead of The Heritage Orchestra’s epic electro-orchestral tribute to the maestro.

Finally, this year, Vivid has commissioned award-winning international artists 59 Productions to create a new projected artwork for the sails of the Sydney Opera House, Vivid LIVE’s most renown event. According to the event’s organisers, “59 Productions will now take the iconic building on a dramatic journey through time, from the birth of architecture and civilisation through to the pinnacle of human and technological achievement.”

The full Vivid LIVE program will be announced on Monday, 24th March. First announce tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday, 17th March at 9am via the Sydney Opera House website.
