Phillip Glass, Grinderman and Wire for MONA FOMA

Tasmania’s MONA FOMA (Museum of Old and New Art Festival of Art and Music) has just released it’s first line-up announcement, and I’ll be buggered three ways from Hobart if it’s not mouth-wettingly amazing.

Curated by Violent Femmes bassist Brian Ritchie, a Hobart resident himself, so far the line-up for 2011 boasts avant-garde minimalist composer Phillip Glass along with cellist Wendy Sutter, Nick Cave and co’s raucous Grinderman, post-punk pioneers Wire, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Health, Amanda Palmer and The Break, along with a wide range of performance artists, including a very special performance from Neil Gaiman with Fourplay and Eddie Campbell.

Launched two years ago 2011 looks set to be the festivals strongest year yet. Comprising of ticketed and un-ticketed events around Hobart from January 14 – 23, the full schedule will be released in December.
