UPDATE: It has now been confirmed that the remainder of Placebo’s Australian tour will be going ahead as planned.
UPDATE: Placebo are hoping to reschedule their cancelled Perth show following Monday’s last-minute cancellation.
Despite punters already flooding to Perth Arena this evening, the band have announced in the final minutes before kick-off that their show there will not be going ahead, at least, not tonight.
The official statement from promoter TEG Live reads:
Placebo regretfully advise that they are unable to perform tonight’s concert at Perth Arena due to illness.
Promoter TEG Live has requested that fans retain their tickets until more information is available.
The band hope to make it up to their Perth fans as soon as possible.
A further statement from Perth Arena reveals that frontman Brian Molko is the one down with the sickness. Their statement reads:
“Placebo regrettably advise that tonight’s show in #Perth is cancelled due to illness.
We wish Brian a speedy recovery. Placebo hope to make it up to their fans in Perth soon. Please hold on to your ticket, full info to come.”
No word yet on whether any of the band’s other Aussie tour dates scheduled for Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Newcastle and Canberra this month will be affected, but we’ll be sure to bring you more news as it develops.
Meanwhile, fans are already taking to social media to express both disappointment about the 11th hour cancellation and support for the sick Placebo frontman:
