Sydney duo Oh My My are here to give you an ominous, yet exhilarating, cut of electronic music with their new single ‘We All Want The Lights Down’.
Set for release as a double A-side along with another track, ‘Make Me Feel Alive’, ‘We All Want The Lights Down’ is a song that stalks and creeps up on you, before erupting into a maelstrom of distorted guitars, almost taking on a life of its own.
“I had this chorus sitting around for quite a while and loved it, but I could never quite finish it,” Oh My My’s Sam Tomlinson told Music Feeds.
“Tim and I got together one night to flesh it out and it came together really quickly. I knew it wasn’t going to be your average single. It’s long, it tells a long story, you move from a car park, where a relationship is breaking down, into full on heavy loss of control (drum solos included).”
Timothy Quaife, Oh My My’s other member, echoed this sentiment, saying “(Sam) was rescuing me after a relationship break down and I was in a bit of a state.
“Sam showed me the chorus and I loved how dark and menacing it felt. It was pretty easy to feed off what Sam had built and just let the emotion out. We basically finished it in one big long session and by the time we were done I think we realised we had made a bit of a Frankenstein. I kind of love it more because of that. It tells the story we wanted to tell without apology.”
The ‘Make Me Feel Alive/We All Want The Lights Down’ double A-side is out tomorrow (Wednesday, 9th June). Listen to ‘We All Want The Lights Down’ below.
