Late last week, Donald Glover, otherwise known as Childish Gambino, released his latest effort, the two part STN MTN/KAUAI mixtape and within hours fans on Reddit uncovered a hidden Gambino track hiding on the Internet.
Upon releasing part two of the mixtape last week, Gambino took to Twitter to hint again at the existence of the unreleased “secret track”, telling followers the new remix of Because the Internet‘s 3005, called 3005 (Beach Picnic Version), should help them find it.
Gambino first mentioned the secret track back in December, when he released a 72-page screenplay about the music from his album, Because the Internet. According to Consequence of Sound, following Gambino’s latest clue, a Reddit fan pieced together some coding in the script and soon uncovered a hidden a cappella track on Gambino’s official website, which referenced 3005.
The user then synced the song up to STN MTN‘s closing remix track, 3005 (Beach Picnic Version), resulting in the brand new Secret Track, being referred to online as 3005 Part 2. Childish Gambino himself later confirmed the Reddit user’s success in cracking the code, tweeting out a link to the thread.
The STN MTN/Kauai mixtape/EP release acts as a bridge between Gambino’s 2013 album, Because the Internet, and his upcoming third studio album. It comes via DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz imprint.
The hive mind wins again. Listen to the track below.
