Sound City Players To Shut Down Hollywood Blvd For Kimmel Next Week

Is Dave Grohl superhuman enough to take his Sound City Players through two shows in two countries in two days? Unlikely, but the latest news seems to suggest that, although it was a nice dream while it lasted, Sound City Players will not be making any surprise appearances in Perth next week.

That said, this is still very exciting news – John Capellaro, brother of Lee Ving, has posted a status that places Sound City Players in Hollywood next Tuesday, 5th March as part of a special Jimmy Kimmel event.

My brother, Lee Ving will be performing with the Sound City Players (Dave Grohl) next Tuesday on “Shut Down Hollywood Blvd.,” part of the Jimmy Kimmel Show.

Ving is frontman of Fear and played with Sound City Players on the Sound City doco soundtrack. An annual event, previous Shut Down Hollywood Blvd gigs have featured Depeche Mode and last year’s Shut Down Hollywood Blvd featured Katie Perry and although Kimmel is yet to officially announce Sound City Players, if Capellaro’s FB post is correct, it would make it damn near impossible for Sound City Players to perform in Perth on Monday, 4th March.

News of the possible Perth gig came yesterday by way of a Music Feeds interview with Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor, who also features as part of Sound City Players. Taylor did caution that he “could be completely wrong” and Feeds reported the story as strictly hearsay.

Still, it would have been cool had the speculation come to fruition. Although it appears the Perth date may be incorrect we can still hold hope that Sound City Players will play Australia at some point in the near future.

UPDATE: 01/03/13

It’s official! Free ticketing outlet 1iota have announced details of the show and how to acquire tickets.

Here’s the description of the show.

ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and Sonos will present a unique concert experience shutting Hollywood Boulevard down for an exclusive performance by front man of the Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl’s Sound City Players featuring Rick Springfield and John Fogerty. The concert is expected to draw over 10,000 fans and will take place on Tuesday, March 5, in the heart of Hollywood.

Sound City Players was assembled to play the music created for the Grohl-directed “Sound City” documentary and its accompanying “Sound City – Real to Reel” album-as well as classics spanning the artists’ storied careers. “Sound City,” the film, was conceived by Grohl after he purchased the legendary custom-built Neve 8028 recording console from historic Sound City Studios last year. The board, built in 1972, is considered by many music insiders to be the crown jewel of analog recording equipment, having recorded such artists as Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, Guns and Roses, Fear, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Slipknot, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, and countless other musical legends over the past 40 years.
