St. Vincent Teases New Track, ‘Pay Your Way In Pain’

Back in December, St. Vincent – real name Annie Clark – confirmed rumours that in 2021, she’d be releasing a new record. Those rumours were first sparked by a bunch of street posters that fans had found and posted to Reddit. The news was later confirmed by her on Twitter.

Today, St. Vincent has given us another lil snippet of what’s to come via Twitter, in the form of a mysterious video clip with a phone number attached to it.

The cinematic clip features St. Vincent in a similar wig to that of which she wore on the posters, running through a run down apartment complex. She runs to the sound of a ringing phone, and when she picks it up, she says “Hello?”

A voice replies, “Hello, Annie.”

The video then instructs us to call a number ending in DADDY. “CALL NOW!” it says.

Look, I tried to give the number a call for research purposes but because I’m here in Australia and this line was presumedly connected from somewhere that’s not Australia, it wouldn’t let me connect. So I did a little digging, and according to NME, “upon calling the number, Clark says “hello” twice, and the same deep voice heard in the video describes her return to music as if it were a movie trailer.”

“She’s back,” the voice says, “in a new role like you’ve never seen here before. Featuring the new single, ‘Pay Your Way In Pain’. Nobody expected it, nobody believed it and nobody could stop it.””

They said that the call ends with the same voice saying “Daddy’s home”, which as previously reported, is the title of her forthcoming record.

We still don’t yet have a release date for the new track, but the record will be with us on Friday, 14th May via Loma Vista Recordings.
