Kanye West may be responsible for pretty much the most sought-after sneakers in the world, but that’s not the only way he likes to keep fans on their toes.
Yeezy has just bushwhacked us with a pair of brand new recordings, which appeared overnight on a Soundcloud account in his name.
As The Verge points out, neither West nor SoundCloud has confirmed the account’s legitimacy, but frequent Kanye collaborator Travi$ Scott did share a link to the account on Instagram, along with the caption: “It starts”, implying that it is actually legit.
The two songs themselves are not “new” per se, but never-before-heard Kanye reworks of old ones.
The first is a rejigged version of his 2008 808s & Heartbreak track Say You Will, featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning performer Caroline Shaw. While the second is Ye’s AutoTune-stuffed take on a beat he made for The Weeknd’s Tell Your Friends, dubbed When I See It.
The two new tracks don’t seem to be in any way related to the rapper’s mysterious new LP Swish, which for all we know may not end up being released until the year he runs for President of the United States.
And while the new activity on Yeezy’s SoundCloud feels like a promising sign of things to come, it could also just be a throwaway gift to his most dedicated fanyes.
