Sydney Scores New ‘After Hours’ Nightclub That Doesn’t Start Til 5am

Outside of the Arctic Tundra, Sydney’s got to be about the last place on earth you’d expect to find a nightclub that operates between the ungodly hours of 5am and 12pm. But that’s exactly what’s just opened its doors in the City That Always Sleeps.

Afters is a new weekly event running out of Darlinghurst’s Club 77 every Sunday morning (or Saturday night for all you party people still bendering it like Beckham) catering to those who want to get the Sunday sesh super early or keep the Saturday night good times rolling late.

It’s only been around for a few weekends but it’s already pulling pretty impressive numbers, getting up to 175 thirsty red-eyed punters through the door each week (and for a 180-cap venue that ain’t half bad).

But now, it’s really about to make its presence felt by chucking a 15-hour long rager headlined by London techno wizard East End Dubs, and featuring talented local artists and DJ’s including Jake Hough, Marley Sherman, Jamie Palmer and more, plus a mysterious ‘secret guest’.

It’s set to kick off at 9pm on Saturday, 9th December and run right through the night until midday on Sunday, 10th.

Organiser Brett Ayton has confirmed to Music Feeds that although they won’t be able to serve alcohol between the state-imposed curfew hours of 3am-5am, they’ll still be pumping tunes and keeping the good times cranked.

“The reason we started an after hours party is because we actually don’t think Sydney nightlife is shitty,” Brett and his Afters co-mastermind David Cooper tell us in a statement, adding that police have actually been super supportive of the endeavour.

“There are a lot of great promoters doing a lot of great things and a market for an after hours party is the result. There is still plenty of room for improvement but Sydney nightlife is doing pretty well at the moment,” they continue.

“Afters is for people who don’t want to finish their night yet and want to continue to dance and enjoy themselves, it’s also for people that have worked during opening hours of clubs that want to grab a drink and have a boogie on the dance floor after work or for people who simply want to start their day by getting their groove on to our resident DJ’s, our very talented local DJ’s and international DJ’s!”

Afters will also be expanding its itinerary to include Monday mornings as well from this weekend onward.
