The Cranberries To Release New Album

Irish rockers, The Cranberries, will release their first album in over a decade next February.

Led by charismatic singer Delores O’Ridoran, The Cranberries dominated the nineties with mega-hits Linger and Zombie. They reunited in 2009 after a hiatus announced in 2003.

New album, Roses, will be their sixth album and the first since 2001’s Wake Up and Smell the Coffee. The release date is scheduled for Valentine’s Day, 14 February, 2012 in the US and 13 February 2012, worldwide.

O’Ridoran told Billboard magazine, “The whole thing was very lovely … It came together really nicely. A lot of the tracks were written without really thinking about it. They just came. I suppose we had more respect for each other and what we were doing. In the latter days, towards 2003, we were just kind of going through the motions a bit. Now we’re really happy and really appreciate what we have together.

She also talked about the reunion and how the live shows have been. “It’s really just right. There’s something there when we’re together that’s really good. It’s not something that money can buy. It’s not really something anyone can really emulate. It’s got to do with energy and chemistry and that kind of thing. It’s like putting on a perfect pair of shoes. It just fits.”

Of the 15 tracks recorded, 11 will be included on the album, with four used as B-sides for future singles. The first single is likely to be Tomorrow, according to O’Ridoran. “It’s about the way we sometimes hyper over-escalate things in our minds, overthink about things … when sometimes spontaneity and just jumping in is better.”
