The Flaming Lips Are Headlining A Free Aussie Festival Launch Party In 2016

The Flaming Lips will help launch next year’s Sydney Festival by performing a free show in January.

The psych-pop icons will take over The Domain on Saturday, 9th January with a headlining performance to kick off both the Summer Sounds in The Domain concert series and the 40th Sydney Festival program of music, theatre, art and more.

And good news for the young whipper snappers – it’s an all ages event.

Plus, with their out-of-this-world stage show featuring everything from confetti cannons to yetis, aliens, animal back-up dancers, glowing neon vaginas and Coyne’s signature space-bubble crowd-surfing schtick, like you need any more reason to get excited.

Oh, and we mentioned it’s free, right?

The news comes in the wake of Wayne Coyne & co’s previously announced performances at Hobart’s MONA FOMA and a one-off headlining gig in Melbourne.

Meanwhile, the Lips have also been busy planning a naked, milk-soaked show with their pal Miley Cyrus, to which you are also invited.

Check out the details of their free show at Sydney’s The Domain, and pencil it into your daybook, below.
