The Smashing Pumpkins are on the hunt for a new guitarist, and it could be you. The grunge icons have launched a global search, putting out an open call for any and all prospective string-ticklers who reckon they’ve got what it takes to replace outgoing axeman, Jeff Scroeder, to apply.
Billy Corgan and friends announced the global free-for-all on social media, specifying that “the application process is open to anyone who might be interested”.
“Please send a resume”
Their post requests eager applicants shoot a “resume and any related materials” through to a dedicated email address (RIP to the inbox of SPGuitar@redlightmanagement.com). And sorry bassists, only six-string players need apply.
Scroeder left the Pumpkins last October after more than 15 years on guitar duties. “Although it was a very difficult decision to make, I’ve decided to leave the band to make some space to explore a slightly different path,” he said in a statement at the time.
The Pumpkins’ current lineup features Corgan, plus longtime guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, as well as touring bassist Jack Bates and multi-instrumentalist Katie Cole.
They last toured Australia in 2023 with Jane’s Addiction and a bunch of pro wrestlers, bringing Corgan’s own branded ‘The World Is A Vampire’ festival to 10 metro and regional locations across the country.
