This ‘Rocky’ Petition Is Taking Creed-Trolling To New Heights

Creed have been the butt of many-a-joke in the music world, and a new hoax petition to change the name of the upcoming Rocky spin-off movie — which is titled Creed — has taken the trolling to new, hilarious heights.

As Spin reports, after the trailer for the Creed film debuted online earlier this week, a “fan” of the band Creed started a petition called “Change the name of the movie Creed”, calling for MGM to change the name to avoid confusion with the Werth Erms Werd Erpen With Arms Wide Open rockers.

Here’s what the petition’s creator has to say about his plight, and the plight of the “Creedmunity”:

“The movie CREED about the son of Rocky Balboa’s deceased trainer’s son, is making it difficult, if not impossible, for the still-vital online Creed fanbase to exchange thoughts and discussion regarding band developments, song interpretation, rumors, non-erotic fanfiction, and deeper insights into the expanded Creed universe.

“MGM has completely disrespected the Creedmunity by using the name of the still-popular band for their non-Creed related movie and have been stifling conversation by flooding social media hashtags and searches with non-music Creed discussion.

“MGM should have consulted Creed experts and online leaders before titling this movie. The Creedmunity will not be silenced.”

LA movie-maker Nick Robinson is behind the petition, and has taken to Twitter to share in the lols, saying, “For the record: It’s not a fake petition. You can sign it, and if we get enough it’ll go somewhere. A fake petition would be a picture.”

So what does Robinson’s “not fake” petition suggest MGM do to remedy the situation? It suggests a number of alternative titles for the film, including Rocky’s Creed, Boxer Creed, Son of Creed, Apollo Creed’s Son, and our personal favourite, Creed (Not The Band).

Almost 100 people have signed Robinson’s petition at the time of writing. What’s more, some genius called Brad Gage has mashed up Creed music videos with the trailer to the film Creed, and the results are beautiful.
