Scottish trio Chvrches have been in the studio working on their second album and have posted a video inside the studio of them pranking their manager by playing him fake new material.
The video is prefaced by text saying, “6 weeks into the recording of our 2nd album and our manager arrives for his first listens to the session,” before the band hit play on a track that they describe as “fucking massive.”
The track is a dark, experimental tune with no vocals and a huge kick drum, miles away from the delectable electro-pop that defined their debut The Bones Of What You Believe.
The good news to come from this is that CHVRCHES have been in the studio for six weeks meaning that a new album is definitely on its way and that it more than likely won’t sound like what you hear in the video.
On 17th January, Chvrches posted a picture to their Facebook with the caption, “Album two, day one in the studio.” Speaking to NME last month about the album, synth-player Martin Doherty said, “I think we’ll use fewer instruments but ultimately try and do more with them. When you listen to a Michael Jackson song or a Prince song, you realise there’s absolutely nothing in it but an amazing bassline, drums and singing. We want to channel some of that.”
