Watch: Dave Grohl Fills In For Cage The Elephant’s Drummer

Dave Grohl has jumped in at the last minute to help out fellow support band Cage The Elephant after their drummer Jared Champion’s appendix burst on Monday night. The Foo Fighters frontman offered to play drums for the six or seven songs he was most familiar with.

The band were getting ready at the Maverik Center in Salt Lake City in Utah when Champion, who had been complaining about an ulcer for a few days, had to be rushed to hospital. He was immediately rushed in to surgery. The band were at a loss to find a fill-in drummer when Grohl, who had heard about what had happened, called their tour manager and offered his services. Grohl, who you could say has had a little bit of experience behind the kit, took to the set pretty well (as you can see in the videos below), but didn’t play for the whole show, jumping in for the last half of the set, while the band’s monitor engineer did his best to play for the first half.

Cage The Elephant will be out here on the Big Day Out 2012 line-up next year.
