German duo Milky Chance just capped off a busy Australian festival tour including stops at Field Day, Falls Festival, Southbound and their own headlining sideshows, but before jetting off they squeezed in one last performance for triple j, delivering a hypnotic cover of Taylor Swift‘s smash hit Shake It Off for a special early edition of Like A Version.
The bed-hair sporting duo slowed down Swift’s jaunty pop hit, saturating it with trademark Milky Chance reggae-funk flavour, aided by Singer Clemens Rehbein’s distinct drawl. Rehbein’s beat-making counterpart Philipp Dausch took up percussion duties and the duo invited their friend, Antonio, to help with guitar on the cover.
While in the studio, they also laid down an acoustic version of their own mega-hit, Stolen Dance. The affable duo said that while they didn’t expect the song to take off as well as it has, Rehbein’s mum knew early on the song would be a hit.
