Watch Royal Blood Cover Cold War Kids For ‘Like A Version’

Brighton rock duo Royal Blood are in the midst of trekking up and down the country as a part of Laneway Festival and this morning made a stop at triple j studios to perform a rare acoustic cover of Cold War Kids’ Hang Me Up To Dry for Like A Version.

For this version the duo put aside their usually heavy, plugged in sound in favour of a stripped back acoustic rendition, forgoing the drums altogether. While unplugged, the rendition was no less powerful.

As vocalist Mike Kerr and his acoustic guitar powered through the cover, drummer Ben Thatcher was tasked with sitting back and enjoying the show, or as he put it, “take care of the admin”. While in the studio Royal Blood also performed an acoustic version of their original track Better Strangers. Check out videos of the performances below.

It’s not the first time Royal Blood have been asked to perform a cover live on radio. Last September the boys delivered a wonderfully heavy version of Lana Del Rey’s West Coast live on Dutch radio, a rendition the radio host called “better than the original”.

Just this week Royal Blood shared four of their B-Side releases to their Facebook page, inviting followers to listen for free. They can be found on the duo’s YouTube channel. Royal Blood continue their tour with the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival as it heads to Adelaide, Melbourne and Fremantle this weekend.
