Professor Stephen Hawking, aka that guy who saved Lisa from an angry mob via his wheelchair-copter in that one episode of The Simpsons (he may have some other achievements I couldn’t be bothered Googling), has covered Monty Python’s classic Galaxy Song for the upcoming Record Store Day.
First appearing in the 1983 Python film The Meaning Of Life, the track is a hilarious breakdown of the bewildering scientific stats of the known universe, originally sung by Eric Idle and makes the intro to the Big Bang Theory look like a smouldering heap of turds. So kinda like the show itself, I guess.
The world’s smartest dude starts off the music video for the track with a gentle cruise around his home turf of Cambridge University, before running over fellow brainiac and astronomer Brian Cox and shooting off into the cosmos for good measure.
The cover will be released on a special edition 7″ on Record Store Day this Saturday, making for the perfect gift for that geeky Monty Python fan we, literally, all have.
