Xavier Rudd Cops Flack From Fans Over Controversial KFC Ad

Singer-songwriter, vegetarian and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) supporter Xavier Rudd is copping some heat from his fans after his song Let Me Be appeared in a new commercial for fast-food giant KFC.

Rudd’s song appears in KFC’s new ‘Home Cricket Ground’ video advertisement, and as Tone Deaf reports, the use of the song has seen the muso’s Facebook page hit with a number of negative comments, including:

Neither Rudd nor KFC Australia have publicly commented on the use of Let Me Be in the commercial, and it remains to be seen if Rudd had any say in the use of the song, or if its use is the result of a decision by someone in charge of his publishing rights.

A passionate vegetarian, Rudd has previously thrown his support behind the likes of PETA and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

His situation is reminiscent of the Madden Brothers’ controversial stint as the faces of a “Good Times” KFC ad in 2012, despite their past connections to vegetarianism and PETA. Interestingly, Joel and Benji Madden were both nominated for the title of world’s sexiest vegetarian by PETA in 2006, and Rudd actually scored the title of Australia’s Sexiest Vegetarian by PETA in 2008.
