Full MONA FOMA 2016 2016 Lineup Announced

Hobart’s Museum of Old and New Art’s (MONA) Festival of Music and Art (FOMA) has just unveiled its full lineup for 2016, and it could be the coolest MOFO yet.

Next year’s event has assembled a collection of over 300 artists, musicians and performers from around the world, led by the likes of The Flaming Lips.

They’ll be joined by solo heroic percussionist Evelyn Glennie (UK), award-winning composer Antonio Sánchez (USA) who’ll be performing his original drums-only score to a screening of the Academy Award-winning film Birdman; Japanese hip-hop turntablist pioneer DJ Krush, Norwegian art-pop provocateur Jenny Hval, award-winning British poet-turned-rapper Kate Tempest and loads more, from as far afield as Ethiopia, Norway, Japan and Belgium.

Another big highlight will be Australia’s own Kate Miller-Heidke debuting some of her new material with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO) at the Odeon Theatre.

MOFO 2016 will take place at venues across Hobart from 13th January – 18th January 2016, with a cavalcade of art exhibitions, theatrical productions, markets and other bespoke events sending the city into cultural hyperdrive.

Tasmanian Premier and Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Will Hodgman, says: “If there’s anything we can expect from Mona Foma, it’s the unexpected. It is this eclectic element of surprise that draws tens of thousands of curious Tasmanians and visitors to the festival every summer.

“Mona will not only be an extraordinary stage for the performers this year, it will be a spectacle in its own right. Once again, the Tasmanian Government is proud to support Mona to deliver this cultural centrepiece.”

Tickets to MOFO 2016 are on sale now, with three-day weekend passes available, providing exclusive access for punters to the festival on-site and inside the museum.
