Jay-Z Facing Charges Of Plagiarism Over Book ‘Decoded’

NME has reported that hip hop tycoon Jay-Z has been issued with a lawsuit from Patrick White, who claims he wrote large portions of the 2010 Jay-Z book Decoded but was never paid or credited. Decoded is compiled partly of explanatory passages, revealing the meaning behind certain Jay-Z lyrics, and partly of memoirs. White is claiming that after his laptop was stolen in 2009, material he was responsible for constructing appeared in the book upon its publication.

White made the following statement in the legal papers to the United States District Court on June 13, 2012: “My personal computer was compromised, resulting in my personal work to be used in Jay-Z’s book ‘Decoded’ which was released in 2010. The book [Decoded] contains various expressions/colors/phrases, which correlates to my work. After contacting or attempting to contact the co-author, I got no reply.”

Legally speaking, White is suing Shawn Carter (Jay-Z) for invasion of property and copyright infringement.

In other Jay-Z news, he and Watch the Throne partner Kanye West have almost completed their tour of Europe. The tour has produced many memorable moments such as West having to stop proceedings on two separate occasions to address fans for disrupting the show, and the duo performing Niggas in Paris 11 times in one night!
