Pixies, New Bassist Part Ways Six Months In

Just a few months after joining the Pixies, bassist Kim Shattuck has announced her departure from the band. The Muffs frontwoman shared her disappointment on Friday through messages on Twitter and Facebook.

“Super disappointed to learn that my time with the Pixies ended today. Amazing experience. Looking forward to focusing my attention back on the Muffs and our upcoming new album. All the best to everyone.”

Shattuck began her stint with the Pixies in July this year when founding bassist (and original Kim) Kim Deal left the band suddenly during a recording session for their first batch of new songs since 1991’s Trompe le Monde.

“Kim walked in at some point and said, I’m flying home tomorrow,” frontman Black Francis told Rolling Stone earlier this year. “She quit the band. It was an awkward moment. We didn’t hug or shake hands or anything. [Guitarist] Joey [Santiago] and I just stood up and said, ‘Okay.’ Then we had to get out of there, so we immediately went to a bar. I had to move from coffee to alcohol.”

The band have not yet commented on Shattuck’s quick departure and it is as of yet unclear who will be picking up the bass for the Pixies North American tour schedule to kick of in Toronto on 15th January.
