Actor Mahershala Ali Is The Latest Celeb To Praise Aussie Band Hiatus Kaiyote

Aussie neo-soul group Hiatus Kaiyote have been the subject of a stack of ringing endorsements this year, and now American actor Mahershala Ali has thrown his hat in the ring.

The Oscar-winner, who took home Best Supporting Actor earlier this year for his role in Moonlight (which also won Best Picture) has put together a playlist as part of his recent interview with GQ.

Ali chose to feature Hiatus Kaiyote’s 2013 tune ‘Nakamarra’ alongside Childish Gambino’s massive 2016 track ‘Redbone’, and other tracks by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Unknown Moral Orchestra and JAY-Z.

The latest praise for Hiatus Kaiyote comes after Willow Smith’s declaration late last year that her “dream” is to collaborate with the group.

Drake also sampled their music on his album More Life and has said publicly that he’s a fan of the band, while Metallica frontman James Hetfield sung Hiatus Kaiyote’s praises in an interview earlier this month.

Check out Ali’s full playlist for GQ, and a clip of him explaining some of his choices, below.
