Did Arctic Monkeys Just Let Slip Their New Album’s Release Date?

It looks like Arctic Monkeys might have just let slip the release date of their highly anticipated sixth studio album, if a fan who bumped into drummer Matt Helders is to be believed.

Instagram user @georgeevanss supposedly ran into Helders at a kebab joint this week, and captioned a selfie he took with “Matt Helders likes cheesy chips and gravy. next AM album out in May.”

This, of course, follows on from the fan who recently ran into lead singer Alex Turner, who allegedly said the band’s new single is coming “soon”.

It also confirms what bassist Nick O’Malley said back in 2017, when he let slip that the band’s new album will be out in 2018 because “if it isn’t, we’ve got problems”.

The last we heard from the Sheffield boys was their hugely successful fifth studio album AM all the way back in 2013. 2018 sees them embarking on a massive, worldwide festival tour — with a suspiciously Splendour sized gap — as well as North American dates.

If their album is coming in May, something should be announced in the coming weeks.
