Don McLean Drops Out Of Bluesfest 2016, Postpones Australian Tour

Byron Bay Bluesfest 2016 headliner and American Pie singer Don McLean has pulled out of the festival and postponed his Australian headline tour until 2017, due to ongoing issues within his family.

In a statement, Don McLean’s management say, “Don McLean graciously accepts the willingness of the promoter to postpone the current tour to exactly the same time in 2017 in order to allow Don McLean and his family time to work at reuniting.

“This is an unprecedented moment in the family history. Don McLean thanks all his fans for their patience and love and he looks forward to seeing them next year.”

In January this year, McLean was arrested on domestic violence charges in the US, and was released on a US$10,000 bail bond. Following the arrest, Bluesfest organisers told Music Feeds that the singer-songwriter had a verbal argument with his wife and “no assault occurred”.

“He has been charged with a misdemeanor, so it will not affect his performance,” organisers said.

As the BBC reports, McLean pleaded not guilty to additional charges of domestic violence earlier this week, after a total of six charges were made against him.

McLean was due to perform at Bluesfest 2016 on Friday, 25th March, and had a stack of headline shows lined up around the country. All headline show ticket-holders will receive a full refund from their point of purchase within seven days, while Bluesfest ticket-holders have until Friday, 11th March to change their Friday single day tickets via the Bluesfest contact line.

The 27th Annual Bluesfest is set to take place from Thursday, 24th March to Monday, 28th March 2016.
