EDM Is No Longer Welcome On Instagram

The latest Instagram news comes stained with the tears of a thousand shirtless punters, who can no longer attract followers by using the popular #EDM hashtag, because it’s just been officially banned.

As FACT reports, Insta has blocked #EDM for apparently violating “guidelines around nudity”.

A spokesperson has explained to Thump that the tag was blocked because it was being used to share racy pics that fly in the face of the photo-sharing site’s high moral standards.

“We block (i.e. make unsearchable) certain hashtags when they are consistently being used to share images and videos that violate our Community Guidelines,” the Insta-spokesperson said.

It essentially means that the hashtagged phrase can no longer be searched or clicked, rendering it as useless as a Bintang stringlet on a cold winter’s day.

However, while non-EDM fans may snicker, and while EDM fans may be readying an arsenal of glow stick grenades to launch at Instagram HQ, it’s probably unlikely that the banned hashtag has anything to do with Instagram hating on EDM itself.

In reality, a whole bunch of seedy types have probably just been cashing in on the popularity of the hashtag to sell more viagra pills and penis pumps. Which just goes to prove how popular EDM is.

Why else would other hashtags such as #asstomouth, #buttpirate and #lennykravitzdick (you’re welcome) not be banned as well?

It’s hardly the first time that a seemingly innocuous hashtag has been blacklisted by Insta, either. Earlier this month, the company caused a massive backlash when it ousted the #curvy hashtag, and was soon forced to un-oust it.

“We’re working on a way to more quickly restore certain hashtags that have previously been blocked,” the spokesperson told Thump. “We’re also working on ways to better communicate our policies around hashtags.”

Let’s just hope they sort it out before Stereo, or we might as well not even go, ay bro?
