Justin Vernon’s Volcano Choir Added To Harvest 2013 Lineup, Bon Iver’s Future In Question

Volcano Choir will be featured on the second announcement of this year’s Harvest Festival, with frontman Justin Vernon revealing the news ahead of an official announcement, as well as confessing that the future of his solo project, Bon Iver, may be on thin ice.

Vernon told triple j‘s Zan Rowe that Harvest is a sure thing, saying, “We got a great offer to come down to Australia and play at the Harvest Festival, and I’m excited. It’s one of my favourite places to be and to play and I can’t wait to be here in November.”

And that’s not all, folks. The 32-year-old said he’d like to squeeze in another Australian tour this year for Volcano Choir, saying, “Maybe we’ll get there one more time in 2013 after November, who knows. Whenever I come, I always spend extra time. I’m very at home there.”

But when asked about when fans can expect a new Bon Iver record, the bearded one wasn’t so encouraging:

“I don’t really write songs anymore. The last Bon Iver record was a very ‘sitting down with a guitar and writing’ kind of record. I really have to be in a specific headspace to even begin to illuminate an idea that would create another Bon Iver record, and I’m just not there.

“I’m really honoured that Bon Iver gives me a platform to do whatever I want, but there’s only so much time you can spend digging through yourself before you become insular. I’m not in a hurry to go back to that temperature. All of the music I’ve been making shifting away from Bon Iver feels really good … so if I ever do go back to Bon Iver it will be all the better for it.”

Volcano Choir will join the already massive lineup for Harvest, which includes Massive Attack,

Franz Ferdinand, Primus, Goldfrapp
and the recently reformed Neutral Milk Hotel. You can expect the second announcement sooner rather than later too, with Harvest promoter AJ Maddah commenting via Twitter that the news of Volcano Choir’s inclusion in the lineup may force him to drop the rest of the names early.

Stay tuned to Music Feeds for the entire second announcement as soon as it comes.
