Mumford and Sons have announced their Australian tour for this October on the back of their new album. They’ll be touring with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and folk-blues singer songwriter Willy Mason. The tour will see them play dates all around Australia, including in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Hobart, Melbourne, Canberra, Cairns, Townsville and Gold Coast.
The band will be releasing their new album in September this year, which follows up on their highly successful 2009 release Sigh No More, which brought them out here for the Splendour in the Grass 2010 lineup. Frontman Marcus Mumford told the crowd at Pinkpop Festival that the new album is finished and ready to go.
Bassist Ted Dwane has described their new sound as ‘Doom Folk’ in an interview with Rolling Stone: “The second record is just a reflection of our mindsets, where we’re all at. It’s doom folk, kind of like Black Sabbath meets Nick Drake.” We’ll have to wait and see what he means by that.
