Muse In The Studio With AC/DC Producer For New Album

Over the last few months Muse have been consistently updating fans on the progress of their seventh studio album, and now they’ve confirmed that they’ve enlisted the help of AC/DC producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange in the studio.

The band confirmed the news on their official Instagram page, posting an old photo of Lange with AC/DC. “We are honoured to be making our new album with this legendary producer. #backinblack,” they wrote in the caption. Muse’s last two albums have been self-produced.

Lange in fact worked with AC/DC on their 1980 album Back in Black as well as Highway to Hell and For Those About to Rock We Salute You. According to NME, he’s also worked in the studio with Def Leppard, Foreigner, The Boomtown Rats and, interestingly, also contributed to Lady Gaga‘s 2011 single You & I.

Frontman Matt Bellamy has previously commented that the new Muse record, due out some time in 2015, is “gonna sound like Back in Black, basically”. “I think we’re getting back to where we started – straight rock is coming back to us,” he told KROQ last December. “You can’t just beat guitar, bass and drums – you just can’t beat that.”

Bellamy also disclosed the themes fans can expect on the new record, which will follow-up 2012′s The 2nd Law. In a tweet last month the frontman said the new material will include songs that deal with “deep ecology, the empathy gap and World War 3″.

It was also suggested that a “sequel” to the track Citizen Erased from their 2001 sophomore album, Origin of Symmetry, could feature on the new album.
