Tame Impala Are Back In The Studio, But Not As Tame Impala

Tame Impala have posted up some shots of a recent studio sesh, but strangely, a number of the band’s current members appear to be MIA.

Sharing some snaps from the sessions on the official Tame Impala Instagram account, the band also used the hashtags #gettingthebandbacktogether and #minkmusselcreek.

Now, in case you didn’t know, “Mink Mussel Creek” is the name of a heavy psych sideproject that features former Tame Impala member Nick Allbrook on guitar and current frontman Kevin Parker on drums, alongside Shiny Joe Ryan, Steve Summerlin and Richard Ingham.

And from the looks of it, the band – who released their debut album Mink Mussel Manticore back in 2014 but haven’t really done much since (they’re triple j Unearthed page still links to their old Myspace FFS) – might finally be cooking up some new material:

Following the monumental global success of their third LP Currents last year, Perth psych krew Tame Impala have been spending a lot of their touring downtime time working on other projects.

Bassist Cam Avery has been putting the finishing touches on his new solo album, while frontman Kevin Parker has been playing producer with Lady Gaga on her epic new comeback single.

And now -it seems – a Mink Mussel Creek reunion may be next on the agenda.

However, fans can still catch the actual Tame Impala performing live at next year’s Laneway Festival.

And in the meantime, get your ears on Mink Mussel Creek’s debut album, Mink Mussel Manticore, here.
