You Am I To Tour Australia Performing The Songs Of Spinal Tap

Written by Emmy Mack on February 7, 2018

Get ready to crank it all the way to 11, because Aussie alt-rock larrikins You Am I have announced a new Australian tour with a clever twist.

They’re touring the nation this March and April performing the many bangers of Spinal Tap (that’s the fictitious band from the movie This Is Spinal Tap, ‘sif you didn’t already know).

“One out of every four and a half interviews has included the question, ‘Have you ever had a Spinal Tap moment?’” the band say in a statement, by way of announcing the bizarre and unexpected tour concept.

“Well sweet lord, any band worth their talc has, and we, whether on talc or not, have had more ‘Tap moments’ than liquid dinners! So, we have thrown down the gauntlet, unto ourselves, under the auspices of Montgomery Glitterbest the Third our perfectly adequate manager: why not have ONE BIG SPINAL TAP moment. And then do it again…

“The sounds and the smells of Tap done by our band (the looks are yours to fuss with),” they say. “We love the songs of Tap, they speak of the mighty, meaty and manky elements of the Majesty Of Rock. Hip hip hooray, and so say all of us. TAP INTO AUSTRALIA!”

You Am I will be tapping audiences in Belgrave, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney with their setlist of Spinal Tap’s best and you can catch all the details below.

Just quietly, we’re a little concerned for the welfare of drummer Russell Hopkinson. Let’s hope he manages to survive the whole tour without dying in a bizarre gardening accident or spontaneously combusting.
