Watch Kimbra’s Trippy But Delightful ’90s Music’ Video

Kimbra has unveiled the video for her futurist nod to the era of “TLC, Mariah, Nirvana, and Michael Jackson,” appropriately titled 90s Music. The New Zealand songstress has been stirring anticipation for the clip over social media for some time and now it’s finally arrived in all its vibrant splendour.

“It talks about sharing music as a kid and falling in love to a soundtrack of TLC, Mariah, Nirvana, and Michael Jackson, then slowly growing up and away from that period of time,” explained Kimbra (via Stuff.co.nz). She said while there is an “undertone of yearning,” the track is about acceptance.

“Nostalgia is a common theme for me. I have a strong connection to my teenage years so I wanted to capture that boisterous playful energy with this song,” said Kimbra. Readers can satiate their own yearning for the boisterous, playful days of the ’90s by checking out the 90s Music video below.

Kimbra’s highly anticipated new album The Golden Echo is slated for release this August. Speaking recently during a Twitter Q&A, the singer explained that in addition to the influence of collaborators like Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, influences on the album ranged from Battles to Phillip Glass.
