Watch: Odd Future Bottled At Detroit Show

Written by Barnaby Smith on May 18, 2011

Continuing their finely calculated merry-go-round of controversy, Odd Future‘s latest escapade has seen them bottled by the audience at a show in Detroit.

There were actually several instances of bottle throwing at the show, the first being during the opening minutes when a bottle was hurled, just missing DJ Syd the Kyd. MCs Tyler, the Creator and Hodgy Beats urged the crowd to calm down, only for a bottle to be thrown later in the show that ‘grazed’ the cheek of Domo Genesis. Tyler warned the crowd that they would leave the stage if another one was thrown, which indeed prompted another bottle to crash on to the stage.

This was apparently where Tyler lost his cool, stripping to the waist and threatening to enter the crowd to sort out the bottle thrower. The thrower was eventually identified and escorted out by security.

To his credit, Tyler tried to get the show back on some kind of course, only for the rest of Odd Future to leave the stage, signalling the end of the show.

The incident is the latest in a series of headline-grabbing moves by the band. As previously reported, Odd Future played a very censored set for the BBC recently, have been on the receiving end of terse criticism from Tegan and Sara and arrests in Los Angeles.
