Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes spoke to triple j‘s Ben and Liam this morning, and told them that he once threw an Arctic Monkeys demo that Alex Turner gave him in the bin.
Sykes is currently doing a whole lot of press in support of Bring Me The Horizon’s forthcoming album Amo, as well as new single ‘Mantra’, and called into the radio station earlier this morning where he was asked about his connection to the Arctic Monkeys frontman – they attended the same school growing up.
“I saw him at a festival two years ago, which was weird,” Sykes said. “He recognised me and was really excited. I couldn’t even believe he remembered who I were at all so was quite stoked on that.”
“I went to school and college with him, and at that point Arctic Monkeys were just kicking off. At that point I (was) full on death-metal so I wasn’t interested whatsoever…he came up to me to give him one of their demos, and I threw it in the bin.”
This interview comes shortly after another interview Sykes did with BBC Radio 1 which shows just how much Sykes has changed his tune since then.
“Arctic Monkeys are actually one of my favourite bands going,” he said.
“You know for a fact that, whatever the next album’s going to be, it’s not going to be the same as the last one.”
