David Bowie’s classic 1969 single Space Oddity has been turned into a storyline for a children’s book. The actual lyrics will be used and drawings are done by artist Andrew Kolb.
The book will be no more than 40 pages and recounts the story of Major Tom, an astronaut who goes into space and becomes a media hero back on earth. But, as he ventures out further something goes horribly wrong.
Artist Andrew Kolb speaks about his inspiration behind illustrating the song:
Have you ever listened to a song and your mind’s eye is immediately filled with visuals?
David Bowie’s classic space epic is one such song for me. Every lyric paints such a vivid picture that I figured “Oh hey, I guess I’ll make that into a children’s book!”
A physical version is not available yet, but you can download a sample PDF from Kolb’s website.
