Hiatus Kaiyote Announce New Album ‘Mood Valiant’

Australian neo-soul legends Hiatus Kaiyote have returned today with news of their first album in six years, Mood Valiant. Oh, and a new song. Oh! A nationwide tour as well. It’s all bloody happening, folks.

Mood Valiant marks the first full length project from the band since they released Choose Your Weapon back in 2015.

To commemorate the announcement, they’ve dropped its stunning lead single ‘Get Sun’, alongside Brazilian composer Arthur Verocai.

“We had recorded the song ‘Get Sun’, and it already sounded good,” said bassist Paul Bender in a press statement.

“We had no idea what he had written for it. When Verocai fired up his horn and string sections, it was a release for everyone. Tears were running down my face.”

Of course, part of the reason for the delay in between albums was lead vocalist’s Nai Palm’s diagnosis of breast cancer a few years ago.

“When you think your life is going to be taken away from you, it makes you think about who you are,” Palm explained.

“I guess after the breast cancer scare I decided that I needed to prove to life that the offering I have is genuine. My only wish is to live and offer my experience of time and beauty.”

Hiatus Kaiyote’s album launch tour will take place across dates in July, September and October. They’ll be playing shows in Melbourne, Canberra, Newcastle, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.

Tickets for the tour go on general sale from 9am local time on Friday, 26th March.

Mood Valiant is out Friday, 25th June.
