June Jones Announces ‘Proximity’ EP, Shares Launch Show Dates

June Jones has shared details of her debut EP, entitled Proximity. It is set for release on Friday June 7th via Chapter Music, marking her first release since signing to the label. To coincide with the EP’s announcement, the Sydney-based singer, songwriter and producer has lifted a new track from it and announced two launch shows for this coming July.

‘Looking Out For An Angel’ is the second track from the EP to be shared, following on from ‘Sxc When I’m Crying’ last month. In a press statement, Jones describes the song’s subject matter as “the feeling of having a crush on someone elusive”.

“[When I was] wrapped up in a longing that felt irrationally consuming, I kept wondering if the intensity of that desire was because this person’s love was unattainable,” she said. “When I would lean into the emotion, it was simultaneously torturous and beautiful, and I was drawn to the complexity of the feeling.”

As with the majority of her solo work, Jones wrote, recorded and produced Proximity by herself. Speaking on the six-track collection, she describes her EP as “the most intentional collection of music that I’ve made”.

“Each song channels an aspect of myself through a persona; a woman not unlike myself, who makes music about her connections with people – romance, love, heartbreak, desire, sex, and relationships,” she said. “While the lyrics on Proximity are a combination of fact and fiction, the sentiments are genuine.”

Despite being a solo artist for some six years, following the dissolution of her previous band Two Steps On The Water, Proximity marks Jones’ debut EP. She has previously released three studio albums: 2019’s Diana, 2021’s Leafcutter and 2022’s Pop Music for Normal Women. Outside of the album format, Jones has also released several stand-alone singles: 2018’s ‘Here, Something’, a 2021 cover of Kylie Minogue‘s ‘Come Into My World’ and 2023’s ‘Good Girl’ and ‘Bubblegum’.

To celebrate the release of Proximity, Jones will play two launch shows in July: One at Melbourne’s Miscellania on Friday July 12th and one at Sydney’s Lansdowne Hotel on Friday July 19th. Concession ticketing is available at both shows, with the Sydney show also offering free tickets to any First Nations people that wish to attend. Tickets for Melbourne can be accessed here, while tickets for Sydney can be found here.
