Aussie 90’s pop nostalgia just got a glossy, late-night reboot.
Bachelor Girl are back with another taste of their upcoming redux album Waiting For The Day: Artist Sessions – and this time they’ve teamed up with none other than Savage Garden icon Darren Hayes for a seriously moody rework of their classic ‘Blind’.
Bachelor Girl – ‘Blind’ (ft. Darren Hayes)
Originally a soaring pop cut, ‘Blind’ has been flipped into something far more shadowy and restrained – think brooding electro-pop, all tension and atmosphere. Frontwoman Tania Doko leans all the way into that darker energy, describing her vocal as “restrained, a bit tormented… whispering betrayal through my teeth,” while Hayes slides in with those unmistakable, silky ad-libs that instantly elevate the whole thing into something fresh and familiar.
It’s a collab that’s been a long time coming, too. The artists’ history stretches back decades, and Hayes didn’t need much convincing – jumping on the track immediately after hearing the demo. “I’m not a phone person,” he admitted, “but I called her straight away. The song was so exciting and inspiring I had to be a part of it.”
The reimagined ‘Blind’ follows the duo’s recent link-up with Jessica Mauboy on ‘Treat Me Good’, with Artist Sessions shaping up as a full-blown Aussie all-star moment – 15 tracks, 14 collaborators, and a whole lotta reworked feelings from their double-platinum debut era.
And yep, they’re taking it on the road too. The Waiting For The Day Redux Tour kicks off with warm-up shows in Bendigo and Yackandandah before rolling through Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Frankston and Sydney across August to October. Tickets are on sale now, so if you’re keen to relive the feels (but make it ~evolved~), you know what to do.
