The week has brought big news for Soundwave 2014. Sevendust announced their cancellation, a third lineup announcement date was confirmed and is now imminent, it was revealed the Perth event may soon have a change of venue, and of course, there’s been lots of third lineup speculation.
Promoter and Australia’s most powerful music industry figure AJ Maddah has been hard at work on his Twitter account, answering incessant fan questions, busting the lineup myths, confirming a few, leaving some hanging, and promising that others will be confirmed at Soundwave 2015.
UPDATE: The third Soundwave 2014 lineup announcement has finally dropped — full details here!
Once again, Music Feeds is here to help your sift through all of the gossip, as we previously did when we brought you the bands you didn’t see on the second Soundwave 2014 announcement. Naturally, there’s been plenty of action since then, see for yourselves:
- Godsmack — “Won’t be on SW,” says Maddah. Headline tour too expensive.
- Social Distortion — Next year.
- Dropkick Murphys — “No chance this time,” says Maddah.
- Darkc3ll — It looks like their own tour got in the way.
- Witchgrinder — Ditto.
- Spineshank — Nu-metal group “can’t leave US…one of them may be on parole!“
- Skunk Anansie — Were invited, but “they wanted waaaaay more money than they are worth.”
- Havok — A quick “Nope.”
- System of a Down — Don’t hold your breath, Maddah wouldn’t.
- Darkest Hour — No.
- Smoking Hearts — And no.
- Black Sabbath – Will never happen.
- Conditions — Check the Soundwave 2015 lineup. Maddah and the band have a pact.
- The Wonder Years — “Sadly not.”
- Kings of Chaos — “Very nearly…“
- Forever The Sickest Kids — These boys have a “less than zero” chance.
- Bloodhound Gang — “Not this time.”
- Pretty Reckless — Nope.
- Dream Theater — The prog-metal veterans are a no-go.
- The Front Bottoms — Not this round.
- Sabaton — “No, but I would be happy to have them in future years,” says Maddah.
- Erra — Too early for an Australian tour.
- Manowar — Maddah wants them for SW15.
- Arcane Roots — “nope. Wish I had!“
- Puddle of Mud — Maddah called them “Puddle Of Shite.” That’s probably a no.
- Soundgarden — “Doubt we’ll see SG ever again.”
- Twenty One Pilots — Invited to Soundwave 2015.
- Dimmu Borgir — Likewise.
- The Dudesons — “F-ck Nay!“
- Young Guns — “Nope.”
- Sworn In — “Yeah. They’re the 1st name I think of as soon as I think ‘bands.’” That’s a no.
From the last round:
- Pierce The Veil — Post-hardcore four-piece will get a co-headline.
- Smashing Pumpkins — AJ says “Not this time.”
- Iron Maiden — “They won’t be” at SW14.
- Rammstein — And neither will the German industrial metal gods.
- Max Cavalera — AJ won’t be working with the Cavaleras any time soon.
- Evanescence — AJ says they’re a no-go.
- Stonefield — AJ says “nope.”
- Enter Shikari — “Zero” chance says AJ.
- Architects — And “zero” chance for the UK metalcore outfit.
- Rancid – AJ’s been chasing them for years. He’ll be chasing them for at least one more.
- After The Burial – No.
- Veil Of Maya – Also no.
- Nine Inch Nails — Trent was very vocal about NIN’s absence.
- Device/Disturbed — AJ ruled out David Draiman’s new project and his flagship.
- Foo Fighters — AJ gave a characteristic “nope.”
- Black Label Society — BLS’s SW14 chances? “None.”
- Good Charlotte — Despite “hustling” for a place, AJ did not let them pass GO.
- Anvil — No luck, but we might see them added to the lineup for Soundwave 2015.
- Hellyeah — Rumoured after Megadeth published an old poster, but no-go says AJ.
- The Word Alive — No. AJ has spoken.
- I See Stars — “Neither” The World Alive nor these electronicore youngsters.
- Machine Head — “Nay,” says AJ.
- The Darkness – A cancelled headline tour this year probably didn’t help.
- Halestorm – “Conflicting shows in Europe”.
- Maximum The Hormone – Conflicting Japanese tour dates ruled them out of the first announcement.
- King Diamond — Not this time ’round, but possibility for SW15.
- Papa Roach — “Not this time. They’re recording new album in Feb,” says AJ.
- Bullet For My Valentine — 2015 looking more likely.
- Tool — “They have only toured 6 times since they last wrote a song.” That’s a ‘no‘.
- A Perfect Circle — “Nope,” says AJ. They recently toured.
- 30 Seconds To Mars – A headline tour rules them out. “Think about it.”
- Silverstein – “6 or 7” audience members does not a festival band make.
- Brand New – “Late 2014” will see their return.
- Taproot – “Not this time but more than happy to have them in the future.”
- In Flames – A big “nope”.
- Skillet – Kicking goals everywhere but Australia, it seems.
