The Powerpuff Girls Is Copping A Live-Action Series

Look, I know we’re all getting a bit sick and tired of live action remakes, but just hear me out on this one.

The Powerpuff Girls. Live action. Set in the trio’s twenties. Sugar, spice and (maybe, not really this time) everything nice.

Variety have today reported that this is very well on the cards, with CW ordering a pilot for the aforementioned scenario.

The cartoon series, originally created by Craig McCracken, ran for six seasons from 1998 to 2005 on Cartoon Network.

The live-action series will pose the pint-sized superheroes against a new set of challenges, with the trio emerging as disenchanted twentysomethings who aren’t exactly happy about having lost their childhoods to fighting crime.

The project is being spearheaded by co-writers and executive producers Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody. Regnier is best known for her work as a screenwriter on Falling Skies, whilst Cody wrote for Juno, Jennifer’s Body and Young Adult, among others.

Though The Powerpuff Girls finished up in 2005, a reboot of the animated series was aired on Cartoon Network in 2016.
