The New Pollution: # 033 – Mikhael Paskalev

Mikhael Paskalev is a half Norwegian/Bulgarian export who makes upbeat, folksy rock that is sure to get toes tapping. His single I Spy has gathered some 500,000+ hits on YouTube, although I think that’s mostly down to the “smash Ikea” fantasy most of us dream of.

Paskalev will release a full-length album later in the year, but debut single Jive Baby will more than hold us over. The outro sounds a lot like The Ting Ting’s That’s Not My Name, which may sound like an insult, but trust me, if you can get past the first three minutes of that song, you’ll be in for a pop-rock treat. Watch both of Mikhael’s videos because they’re much more than your stock-standard, indie warehouse film clips.

For fans of Peter, Bjorn & John, Sondre Lerche, Aha, Dr. Dog and gypsies soaked in jangly Americana.
